Two named WNC’s best

Two local athletes were named All-Western North Carolina in football by the Asheville Citizen-Times. Murphy senior Payton McCracken was named to the first team at defensive back, while Andrews junior Isaac Weaver was named to the second team at running back.

As a defensive back, McCracken had 105 tackles, nine pass deflections and a forced fumble. He also caught 48 passes for 825 yards and six touchdowns as a wide receiver, and served as the team’s punter. McCracken will play football for Western Carolina this fall as a preferred walk-on.

Weaver was Andrews most versatile offensive player, recording 1,550 total yards and scoring 12 touchdowns. He also had nine interceptions as a defensive back, playing both ways despite battling nagging injuries for much of the season.
