RACING

Cars back at the track

Race cars will be roaring around Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown on Monday. They will run the same program as scheduled for their May 10 race.

The race will feature giveaways for Mother’s Day that they did not get to do on May 10. It will also feature Memorial Day fireworks after the races.

604 late models, 602 late models, street stocks, front wheel drives, dirt late models, Crown Vic and open wheel will hit the track under the lights Saturday.

Details: Pit tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for ages 11-15 and free for ages 10 and under. Grandstands are $20 for adults, $15 for ages 11-15 and free for ages 10 and under. The pits open at 2 p.m., grandstands open at 3 p.m. and hot laps start at 6 p.m.

BASKETBALL

AHS hosts a car wash

The Andrews High School girls basketball team will be hosting a car wash at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The car wash will be to raise funds for the team to attend a team camp at Campbell University in June.

It will be held at Town Hall at the West End Plaza in Andrews. It is $10 per vehicle and donations are accepted and appreciated.

This is the team’s third annual fundraising car wash, with the goal of sending the team to camp.

Sheriff hosts fish tourney

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a kids fishing day Saturday, May 31, at the Sheriff’s Office Firing Range off of U.S. 19/74 in Marble.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the event will start at 9 a.m. It will be held rain or shine.

There will be free bait. G&S Bait is providing worms and donating Zebco poles.

Calling all MHS alumni

Murphy High School will host an alumni football game where the alumni Bulldogs will take on an alumni squad of Swain County Maroon Devils.

The game will be at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 14.

Get a chance to relive one of the biggest rivalries in the history of the Smoky Mountain Conference.

MHS hosts football camp

Murphy High School will be hosting a youth football camp Tuesday through Friday, June 3-6.

The camp is for kids ages 7 to ninth grade. It will be at the football fields at Murphy High School. The camp costs $75 per person.

Still Place golf tourney

A golf tournament will be held Friday, June 6, to benefit The Still Place at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville.

There will be four-person teams with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. It is $125 per person or $500 per team. The event is scramble format. Arrive by noon for lunch before the shotgun start.

Highlights include lunch, prizes, special hole competitions, advance purchase of mulligans, raffle silent auction and drink ticket.

Volleyball at school

Murphy High School is hosting a youth volleyball camp Monday and Tuesday, June 9-10.

The camp is for all children from fourth through eighth grades. The camp will be held in the gymnasium at Murphy High School. The camp costs $60.

SOCCER

MHS hosts soccer camp

Murphy High School will be hosting a soccer camp from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 16-18.

The camp is for kids 5 years old through rising ninth-graders. The camp costs $60 per person to be paid on the first day of camp.

It will be at the practice field behind Lowe’s in Murphy. Every participant will get a Murphy soccer T-shirt.
