Cats earn close win
The Andrews boys golf team got a one-shot win over Murphy on April 1 at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville.
The Wildcats shot a team score of 197, while the Dogs shot 198. Bradey Golden of Murphy won for individuals by shooting 42.
To make up Andrews’ 197, Boone Parker shot 45, Tucker Stalcup shot 47, Brady Queen shot 50 and Braylen Maennle shot 55.
For Murphy’s 198, Conner Golden shot 47, Easton Manuel shot 49 and Abram Twiggs shot 60.
Landen Spies of Tri-County Early College, their only golfer, shot 59.
RACING
Race track is back Saturday
The engines will be roaring yet again Saturday as Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown is holding its second race of the 2025 season.
The 604-Street Stock, Front Wheel Drive, Late Model, Open Wheel and Crown Vic categories will duke it out on the track to get the win.
The pits open at 2 p.m., grandstands open at 3 p.m. and the hot laps start at 5:30 p.m. There is also a driver meeting at 5 p.m. for those racing on Saturday.
Grandstand tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for ages 11-15 and free for ages 10 and under. Pit tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for ages 11-15 and free for ages 10 and under at the race.

Charity event in Hayesville
The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual golf tournament Wednesday, May 14, at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville.
The four-man scramble format tournament will kick off at 9 a.m.
There will be cash prizes for the top-three teams, as well as prizes for male and female longest drive and closest to the pin. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
WRESTLING
Wildcats do well at meet
Multiple youth wrestlers from Andrews competed in an event at Western Carolina University on Saturday.
Maverick Harris in the 8U 45-55 pound division came in second place. Maverick also competed in the 49-56 pound division and got fourth.
Deacon Harris in the 8U boys 63-73 pound division came in third. Deacon also competed in the 70-75 pound division and got third.
Chase Beasley in the junior boys 132-138 pound division came in third place. Beasley also competed in the 138-144 pound division and came in second place.
