Local teams shooting low at second match of the season

The Murphy and Andrews golf teams competed on March 11.

The Dogs went to Chatuge Shores and shot 210 to win the match. Connor Golden shot a match-low 41 to win. Bradey Golden shot 46 to finish second.

Andrews finished in second at a separate match the same day. The Wildcats shot 188.

Wildcats Brady Queen and Boone Parker both shot 46 to finish in the top 10.

BASKETBALL

3 local athletes earn district honors and All-Conference

Ty Clark of Andrews made the second All-District 12 team. Olivia McNabb of Hiwassee Dam was also announced second team in District 12, while Kylie Donaldson of Andrews was third team in District 12.

From Andrews, Ty Clark, Gabe Clark, Kylie Donaldson and Knox Davis were named All-Smoky Mountain Conference. Honorable mentions went to Kegan Ellis, Braxton Rickett, Drea Cutshaw and Alexis Beasley.

In the Little Smoky Mountain Conference, Hiwassee Dam’s Aiden Bennett and Olivia McNabb are the boys and girls Player of the Year. Mark Raper and David Payne are also the boys and girls Coach of the Year.

For All-Conference, Brinkley Payne, Brooklyn Hyde, Braiden Ledford, Jonah Dockery and Jack Raper were awarded the honor. Honorable mentions were Abby Harris and Dalton Kester.

Blairsville charity golf coming up in May to benefit county

The Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce will host their annual golf tournament, “Shoot for the Stars,” on Friday, May 2, at Butternut Creek Golf Course.

Register by Thursday, April 17, to form your four-player team.

There will be prizes for hole in one, longest drive and last place. Included is a tee gift, lunch and awards ceremony.

Still Place to host golf event in Hayesville over summer

On Friday, June 6, there will be a golf tournament to benefit The Still Place at Mountain Harbour Golf Club in Hayesville.

There will be four-person teams with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. It is $125 per person or $500 per team. The event is scramble format.

Highlights include lunch, prizes, special hole competitions, advance purchase of mulligans, raffle silent auction and drink ticket.
