Dogs fall in opener
Get your peanuts and Cracker Jacks ready because baseball and softball season is officially here.
The Murphy varsity baseball team kicked off the Bulldogs’ season to a trip to Franklin. In their season opener, they fell to Franklin 17-16 on Feb. 26.
Franklin took an early first-inning lead, but the Dogs took a one-run lead in the sixth inning. Franklin scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
The Murphy varsity softball team kicked off their season with a trip to Pisgah on Thursday and lost 8-2.
The Lady Dogs will host Tellico Plains, Tenn., at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, while the Bulldogs’ boys will host Cherokee at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11.
WRESTLING
March event was ‘mayhem’
The American Championship Wrestling Federation returned to Peachtree on Saturday night for its third event of the year, “March Mayhem.”
The show kicked off with Stryker and Axel Gunn defeating MD King and Billy Havoc. The tag team of Kevin Seiber and The Freak earned a win.
Then Stryker and Gunn got the victory over Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles and his No. 1 fan, El Fabuloso. Seiber and Freak then got the win over Stryker and Gunn.
In the main event, Frodo and Flex Ferguson defended their ACWF tag-team titles against Seiber and Freak. The match ended in a double count out, so Frodo and Flex retained their belts.
Their next show is set for Saturday, April 5, at the Peachtree Community Center, 125 Memory Lane.
RACING
Tri-County’s first practice
Cars have returned to Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown for the first time in more than a year.
They held their first practice Saturday, where drivers got their first taste of racing at the newly renovated dirt track. Different models of dirt track cars hit the track and got the feel for the fresh track during the four-hour practice session Saturday night.
Saturday, March 8, they will have their next practice session. Gate open at 11 a.m. and the practice is from 1-5 p.m. at Tri-County Racetrack, 10456 Old Highway 64 W. Grandstands are free, while pits are $25.

Senior Games sign-ups set
The Cherokee/Clay Senior Games’ annual athletic competition is coming soon.
Early bird registration opens Monday for $10. Early bird tickets to the banquet are $5 for participants, $15 for guests.
Regular registration opens Monday, March 17, at $15. Banquet tickets are the same price once regular registration opens.
The games are set to start with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26. Following the opening ceremony, the games will begin with the fun walk, softball and football throws, basketball shooting, shot put and discus. Once the opening day games have ended, there will be an awards ceremony for the day’s games.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Clay County Recreation Center, 333 Ball Park Drive.
