Cook, Curtis take tourney
Jason Cook and Rick Curtis were first-place winners at the 2022 Golf Tournament of Champions, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Murphy on June 11 at Mountain Harbor Golf Club.
Curtis also delivered the tournament’s first hole-in-one on hole 5, a par 3. For his fantastic shot, Curtis won a year’s supply of Omaha steaks.
Second place in the tournament went to Mike Hamby and Danny Regan, while Curtis Phillips and Randy Vaughn finished third. Thanks to the players and sponsors, the club raised more than $10,000 to give back to the community in charity and scholarships.

Girls hoops this week
Murphy girls basketball will hold its annual summer camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday for girls entering grades 2-8.
The camp will focus on learning basketball skills, developmental drills and fundamentals from Bulldogs coaches. The cost is $75, and all campers will receive a T-shirt. Campers are asked to bring lunch both days.

Club’s golf tourney set
The Murphy High School Quarterback Club’s 30th annual Golf Tournament will take place Saturday at Old Union Golf Course. The tournament commences at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
It will be played as 3-Man Texas Scramble, which means players hit tee shots, play their own ball from the best tee shot, then take the best score on each hole.
The entry fee is $70 per person, and all proceeds will benefit Murphy High School Athletics. To sign up, call Old Union Golf Course at 706-745-4653 or Murphy High Athletics at 361-5712.

Football’s next week
Andrews High School will holds its annual youth football camp for rising first- through sixth-graders from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
The camp will cost $40. A registration form can be found on the Andrews High School Facebook page.

Baseball camp set
Hiwassee Dam baseball will be holding a baseball skills camp for kids ages 8-14 from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, June 27-28 and 30.
