3 medal in Olympics
Three Cherokee County athletes won awards at the Special Olympics North Carolina Equestrian Tournament held Sept. 20-22 at Tryon International Equestrian Center.
Ariel Sutton won a gold medal in working trails as well as a silver in dressage and equitation on the flat. Nathan Young won silver in dressage and equitation on the flat as well as a bronze in working trails. Arvil Maney won bronze in dressage, equitation on the flat and working trails.
Maney and Sutton rode the horse Little Bob, while Young rode Harper in the competition.

Tourney for Oxton
A benefit fishing tournament for Colby Oxton will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Ledford Chapel Boat Ramp on Lake Chatuge.
There is a $100 entry fee per boat and $10 for the big fish pot. It is also $5 for hot dog or hamburger plates after the weigh-in.
There is a five-fish limit with a 14-inch minimum. Everyone is encouraged to come fellowship after the weigh-in even if you don’t fish.

PEACHTREE
ACWF back on Saturday
The American Championship Wrestling Federation returns to action at the Peachtree Community Center, 125 Memory Lane, on Saturday night. Doors open at 6 p.m., while the show starts at 7 p.m.
All matches and all championship belts will be on the line inside a steel cage Saturday night.
The American Outlaws (Axel Freakin’ Gunn, Killshot and Kevin Sieber), Men of Honor (Stryker Frodo and Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles), Flex Ferguson, Digger James, The Freak, Kilawaya, Mr. Atlanta 2, Mike Clay, Lee Andrews and The Ghost will all be in action.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under.
Pink games in volleyball
Cherokee County high school volleyball teams will host a Pink Night this week to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Andrews will host their Pink Game on Thursday, when they host Murphy. They are hosting a raffle to benefit Kay Jackson.
Raffle tickets are $10. The total prize value of the raffle is $1,625, which includes prizes from more than 20 local businesses. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Andrews volleyball games.
Hiwassee Dam’s Pink Game will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, when they take on Highlands at home.
Murphy will host its Pink Game on Tuesday against Cherokee. They will be raising money from breast cancer research and purchasing of equipment.
