The Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce is hosting their fourth annual sporting clay tournament Friday, Sept. 27, at Noontootla Creek Farm.

The registration fee is $400 per team and includes lunch, a golf cart, clays, swag bag and a signature gift. There will be a bonus turkey shoot with prizes, door prizes and a raffle for a shotgun.

The event benefits local veterans.

Rotary to host golf tourney

The Rotary Club of Murphy will be hosting its 2024 Rotary Tournament for Champions golf tournament at Mountain Harbour Golf Club on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The format is four-person select shot, with tee-off set at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $500 per team.

There will be prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and a hole-in-one prize of $15,000. There are senior tees for ages 65-plus and women’s tees. The cash payouts will be $650 for first, $400 for second and $250 for third.

A full 100% of the profits will be used to provide $1,000 scholarships to at least one graduating senior from each area high school in Cherokee County.

JV football gets update

The Murphy junior varsity football team took on Robbinsville on Monday night and lost 15-12.

The Bulldogs’ JV team is 4-1. They will head to Swain County at 6 p.m. Thursday to face the Maroon Devils’ JV squad.

The Andrews JV team lost to Cherokee 16-8 on Sept. 11. Dawson Stalcup got the pass from Williams Phillips. Korbin Hicks ran in a two-point conversion.

They are 0-3 on the season. They will look to right the ship this week. as the Wildcats face Robbinsville on the road at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Pink games in volleyball

The Murphy and Andrews volleyball teams will host Pink Night to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Andrews will host their Pink Game on Thursday, Oct. 3, when they host Murphy. They are hosting a raffle to benefit Kay Jackson.

Raffle tickets are $10. The total prize value of the raffle is $1,625 and includes prizes from more than 20 local businesses.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at Andrews volleyball games.

Murphy will host its Pink Game on Tuesday, Oct. 8 against Cherokee. They will be raising money from breast cancer research and purchasing of equipment.
