Murphy – Early bird registration for this year’s Cherokee County Senior Games starts Monday.
Registration will be $10 during the early bird period before rising to $15 on April 1. Participants will have to pay an additional $5 if they want to come to the closing ceremonies to help cover the costs of a catered meal for the event. Those interested can register online at cherokeecountyseniorgames.org or pick up a paper registration form at any senior center.
The games start April 30 and end May 21, and you can register until the start of the games. People ages 50 and up can participate, and five-year age divisions will be used for the competitions for each event.
The games also include Silver Arts, which is a visual, heritage, literary and performing arts competition. Organizers said they would love to see more performing artists this year.
Those who compete and finish their athletic events can qualify for the N.C. Senior Games state competition. The top three finishers in the heritage and visual arts competition can also qualify, as well as the top two finishers in the literary arts competition and the best in show at the performing arts competition.
