Kernersville – Murphy took the Leadership Academy of Kernersville deep in their first-round game, but the Lady Bulldogs lost in double overtime in a match that lasted 101 minutes.
The Lady Dogs hit the road on May 13 to take on the No. 12-seeded Leadership Academy in the first round. Murphy, the No. 13 seed, fell 3-2 to be eliminated from the playoffs.
The Lady Dogs’ two goals were scored by Ella Ledford and Haile Hill. Hill also had an assist, as well as an assist from Kaydence Walton.
Hill and Isabel Parker led the team in steals with 13 each. Ella Conley also had double-digit steals with 11. Tina Bui had eight steals. Walton and Tyra Nelson had seven steals each.
Murphy goalkeeper Ella Howard made 14 saves in the first-round matchup, allowing three goals.
They ended the season with a 9-8-1 overall record. Hill ended her sophomore season with 31 goals, averaging 1.7 goals per game. She was the only Lady Dog with double-digit goals.
Hill also led the team in assists with nine and steals with 151 this season. Four other players had triple digit steals as Parker had 145, Bui had 125, Walton had 119 and Nelson had 103.
The Lady Dogs finished the season with a 9-3 record in the Smoky Mountain Conference, finishing second .
Murphy graduated seniors Parker and Faith Lescalleet. They will return almost all of their starters, and all of their bench, for next season.
The Murphy boys soccer team is set to kick off its next season in early August.
