The Cherokee Scout previews upcoming high school sports matchups with this free, online-only feature available to all readers.
.
This week will be a busy and important week in Cherokee County’s high school sports. Kicking off the week is the final round of the Smoky Mountain Conference boys golf tournament, when Murphy will look to successfully defend their championship and Andrews will fight to claim the trophy.
It is also the final week of the baseball and softball regular season. On Tuesday and Thursday, in-county rivals Andrews and Hiwassee Dam will go head to head to wrap up the regular season.
On Wednesday, track and field athletes will head to Cherokee for the SMC championship where all four local teams will look to make an impact and return home with the conference title as a team and in their individual events.
Wrapping up the week, Murphy’s girls soccer team will travel to Swain County for their most important game of the season. This game will decide the winner of the SMC because, at the time of publishing, Murphy sits just one game behind the conference leading Maroon Devils.
