Cherokee – Cherokee County’s Blue Ribbon Boxing Club participated in the Cherokee Streetbeefs event, which welcomed fighters from western North Carolina and north Georgia.
Streetbeefs was founded by Chris “Scarface” Wilmore to use fighting to help steer kids away from more dangerous alternatives such as drug violence. This event was organized by former Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed martial artist Spencer Fisher, who operates a gym in Sylva, and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Council member Albert Rose.
Four Cherokee county fighters won their bout at the event. Murphy native Ellen Gebel won by first-round technical knockout, Dustin Skirvin won by second-round TKO and Tristen Ellis won by first-round knockout. Ellie Gebel of Andrews won by a first-round submission.
