Andrews – Grabbing your first win of the season always lifts some weight off of your shoulders.
But getting your first two wins in consecutive games? That’ll put some wind in your sails.
Coming into their home match against the Nantahala Lady Hawks, the Andrews Lady Wildcats girls volleyball team had yet to collect their first win of the season.
The Lady Wildcats (2-5) had shown promising flashes in their fifth set loss to the Hiwassee Dam on Sept. 5, winning their first two sets of the season against the Lady Eagles, but the victory evaded them.
However, against the winless Lady Hawks, Andrews managed to put all the pieces together, downing Nantahala in straight sets (25-6, 25-8, 25-9) for their first win of the season.
“I think the girls needed this for their confidence,” Andrews coach Shanna Mustin said after the Lady Wildcats captured their first win. “Going into the match against Cherokee on Thursday its great that we got a win under our belt to help them play confidently.”
Just two days later, the Lady Wildcats did it again, playing confidently and downing the Cherokee Lady Braves (1-7) in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) for back-to-to back victories.
“One big thing that we want to work on is the depth of our bench,” Mustin said. “We’re young and we don’t have a junior varsity program, so the more playing time the younger girls get, the better they’re going to help us in the future.”
Andrews took to the road on Tuesday after the Cherokee Scout’s press time, falling in three sets to the Hayesville Lady Jackets.
