Lady Eagles lose road 2 games

Hiwassee Dam – The Lady Eagles’ volleyball team played their first Little Smoky Mountain Conference game in their two-game week last week on the road.

On Aug. 27, the Lady Eagles (1-7) hit the road for their first conference game of the season, where they lost to Highlands 3-1.

The match got off to a hit start with a close first set that saw it extended multiple times. Highlands (2-5) prevailed 32-30 in the first set.

Highlands again got the set win 25-22 and Hiwassee Dam faced losing the match heading into the third set.

The Lady Eagles fought hard and won the third set 25-23 to extend the match. Highlands secured the win in the third set 25-16 to win the game.

In the second match of the week Thursday, the Lady Eagles headed across state lines to take on Union County, Ga., where they lost a close match 3-2.

Hiwassee Dam came out and won a close opening set 25-23. In the second set, Union County (9-5) tied up the game after winning the set 25-13.

In the third set, the Lady Eagles won 25-15. After the commanding set win, they were one set win away from winning the match.

Union County won the fourth set 25-12 to force a tie breaking fifth set, where the teams play to 15 points instead of 25.

Union County prevailed and the fifth set 15-11 to come back and win the match.

Hiwassee Dam drops to 1-6 overall and looks to bounce back this week.

This week, the Lady Eagles head to Clay County to take on Hayesville Thursday at 5 p.m., then host Andrews on Tuesday. at 5 p.m. The Lady Eagles’ next Little SMC conference game is Thursday, Sept. 27 at Nantahala.
