Hiwassee Dam drops road game 3-0
Hayesville – The Hiwassee Dam volleyball team fell on the road to Hayesville on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles (1-8) hit the road last week and headed to Clay County to take on the Lady Yellow Jackets (6-3).
Hayesville got out to an early lead with the Lady Eagles right behind in the first set Thursday night. Hiwassee Dam trailed 14-8 when they called its first timeout, then trailed 19-12 when calling a second. The Lady Eagles fought hard in the first set, but they came up short 25-16.
The second set was all Lady Yellow Jackets, who jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Hayesville had a series of strong kills that elevated them to the 25-8 set win to lead 2-0 in the match.
Again in the third set, Hayesville took an early lead. Hiwassee Dam stayed within striking distance in the must-win set, but couldn’t put together a rally to win the set. They again fought hard, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Lady Yellow Jackets from winning the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
“They started out pretty good, then in the second set we got on our heels and that hurt us,” Lady Eagles head coach Angie Davis said. “That’s just stuff we have to work on and practice.”
To prepare for this week’s games, she said the team will watch film and make adjustments.
“We seem them get better every game that we play, so we’re going to watch some film and just work on some weak spots,” Davis said.
This week, Hiwassee Dam hits the road again to take on Robbinsville at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Eagles return home to kick off a home-stand by hosting cross-county rival Murphy at 5 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, they host the Cherokee Lady Braves at 5 p.m., to continue non-conference matches.
