Lady Eagles fall during busy week

Hiwassee Dam’s varsity volleyball team had a busy week with three matches, including two Thursday. All three matches were outside of North Carolina.

Up first they traveled to Copper Basin, Tenn., then they traveled to Blue Ridge, Ga., and faced Fannin County and Gilmer.

The Lady Eagles kicked off their three-game week with the first of three out of state games on Aug. 25. They traveled to Copper Basin, Tenn., to take on the Lady Cougars and fell 3-2 in their fourth five-set match of the season.

Hiwassee Dam (0-6) got off to a strong start and won the first set 25-19. The Lady Cougars battled back to win the second set 25-20 to tie the match.

The Lady Eagles won the third set 25-23 in a close battle. Both teams battled in the fourth set, but the Lady Cougars won it 29-27 to force a fifth set.

Both teams battled to the finish, but the Lady Cougars won the fifth set 15-10 to win the match 3-2. This was the Lady Eagles’ fourth five-set match of the season, all of which they have lost.

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles left the state again and traveled to Georgia to face Fannin County (11-9) and Gilmer (6-10).

In the match against Fannin County, the Lady Eagles fell 2-0.

The Lady Eagles fell 25-20 in the first set. The second set was the same story as they fell again 25-20 to lose the match 2-0.

In their second match Thursday, they fell to Gilmer 2-0. The Lady Eagles again kept it close but fell 25-20. Gilmer kept their momentum going and won the second set 25-14 to win the match 2-0.

Up next

The Lady Eagles will travel to Cherokee at 6 p.m. Thursday to face the Lady Braves, who are coming off of tournament play in Hawaii.

On Monday, they will face Andrews on the road in their first meeting of the season.

They next day, they will host Murphy at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
