Hiwassee Dam downs Blue Ridge Early College, Highlands
After earning its first Little Smoky Mountain Conference win over Summit Charter on Sept. 11, the Hiwassee Dam varsity volleyball team added two more last week.
It was a winning week for the Lady Eagles (3-13) as they defeated conference opponents Blue Ridge Early College and Highlands on the road.
They started their week with a home game against Hayesville (13-2) on Sept. 15. Hayesville won the first set 25-16, then the second set 25-14 to lead 2-0. The Lady Yellow Jackets won the third set 25-17 to win the match 3-0.
On Sept. 16, they played their second LSMC match when they traveled to Cashiers to face Blue Ridge Early College.
In their first conference road game, they downed the Lady Bobcats 3-0 for their first shutout win of the season.
The first set was the closest and the Lady Eagles won 25-22. In the second set, the Lady Eagles cruised to win 25-11 to lead 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, the Lady Eagles won 25-14 to soar to a 3-0 win over the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Eagles returned to action Thursday, when they traveled to Highlands for their third conference match of the season. In five tough sets, the Lady Eagles defeated Highlands to start conference play undefeated.
Highlands won the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-18 to lead 2-0. The Lady Eagles fought back to win the third set 25-15 and the fourth 25-18 to tie the match at 2.
After forcing a fifth set, the Lady Eagles battled to win 15-12 to win the match 3-2 to earn their third LSMC victory of the season. Through Hiwassee Dam’s first three conference games, the Lady Eagles sit atop the conference standings.

The Lady Eagles will return to action in their final in-county match of the season at home against Andrews at 6 p.m. Thursday.
They will face Fannin County, Ga., at home at 6 p.m. Monday. Then they play their next conference match against Summit Charter on the road at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
