Hiwassee Dam takes 2 in busy 3-game week
Hiwassee Dam – In their final three-game week of the season, the Hiwassee Dam varsity volleyball team defeated Fannin County, Ga., and Blue Ridge Early College. They also fell to Summit Charter in their lone road game of the week.
To kick off their week, they played their final non-conference game of the season when they hosted Fannin County, Ga. It was their second meeting of the season and in their first, Fannin won 2-0.
It was different this time around when the Lady Eagles welcomed the Lady Rebels to Hiwassee Dam on Sept. 29. The Lady Eagles battled and won 3-2 to start their busy week with a win.
In a close opening set, Fannin won 25-20 to take an early lead. Their 1-0 lead in the match didn’t last long though.
The Lady Eagles battled through an extended set to tie the match 1-1 by winning the second set 26-24.
They fought hard again as the Lady Eagles took a 2-1 lead by winning the third set 25-19. In the fourth set, Fannin was in control to tie the match 2-2 by winning the set 25-8.
In the fifth set, the Lady Eagles battled to a 3-2 victory after winning the set 15-12.
On Sept. 30, the Lady Eagles hit the road for the last time during the regular season to face Little Smoky Mountain Conference opponent Summit Charter.
The Lady Eagles won the first set 25-21 to take an early 1-0 lead. Then Summit Charter fought to win the next three sets 25-13, 25-18 and 25-20, respectively.
They secured the win to hand the Lady Eagles their first conference loss of the season.
Following the loss, the Lady Eagles returned home to The Nest to face Blue Ridge Early College in their second meeting of the season.
Hiwassee Dam cruised to a 3-0 win Thursday night to defeat the Lady Bobcats for a second time this season.
The Lady Eagles took an early lead and maintained it in the first set to win 25-17. They fought off a late push by the Lady Bobcats to lead 1-0 in the match.
The second set started close, but the Lady Eagles grabbed the lead and didn’t let go en route to winning the second set 25-13.
In the third set, the Lady Eagles took an early lead and stayed ahead the entire set to win 25-18 to win the match 3-0 and earn their fourth conference win.
The Lady Eagles faced Highlands and hosted senior night after the Cherokee Scout’s press deadline Tuesday morning. Coverage of the match and senior night will be in the Oct. 15 edition.
