Lady Eagles defeat Wildcats 73-53 at home

Hiwassee Dam – With the help of Brinkley Payne’s career high 38-point performance, Hiwassee Dam defeated Andrews 73-53.

In their second meeting of the season, the Lady Eagles bested the Wildcats on Friday night.

They went back-and-forth early in the game with both teams fighting for the lead in the first quarter. The Lady Eagles ended the first quarter ahead 18-16.

Payne led the Eagles with 10 points in the first quarter, while Knox Davis led the Wildcats with seven first-quarter points.

The Eagles began to pull away in the second quarter starting with a layup by Avery McNabb. They scored seven points in the first two minutes while shutting out the Wildcats.

Hiwassee Dam scored 20 points in the second quarter and held the Wildcats to only five points to lead 38-21 at halftime.

McNabb and Payne led the Eagles in the second quarter with seven points each, while the Wildcats were led by Juliet Holloway with three points.

By halftime, Lady Eagles Payne and Brooklyn Orton were in double digit points with 15 and 10, respectively.

Davis hit a 3-pointer to start the second half for the Lady Cats. 

The Lady Eagles continued to maintain their lead in the third quarter as they tacked on 17 more points. The Lady Cats dropped 13 points in the third quarter to stay in the game.

Payne had eight points in the third quarter to lead the Lady Eagles. Davis had four points to lead the Wildcats.

With 18 points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles closed out the game and defeated the Wildcats for the second time this season.

The Lady Wildcats had a 19-point fourth quarter, but couldn’t catch the Lady Eagles.

Payne added 11 points in the fourth quarter to cap off her career night. Marley Blackwell led the Wildcats in the fourth quarter with six points coming on two 3-pointers.

Payne’s career high 38 points led the Lady Eagles. Her previous career best was 29 points.

Abby Harris had 12 points and Orton had 11 points for the Lady Eagles. Harris also had nine rebounds, coming up one short of a double-double.

Davis led the Lady Cats with 15 points. Cutshaw and Blackwell were also in double digits with 11 points each.

Cuthsaw led the Wildcats in rebounds with eight and assists with six.
