The Murphy Lady Bulldogs got two wins in a busy three-game week that featured a comeback win, blowout win and trip to Georgia.
Comeback at Highlands
With 18 points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs came back to defeat Highlands 35-32.
In their non-conference matchup on Jan. 15, Murphy traveled to take on Highlands in a game that was pushed back one day due to the inclement winter weather.
Highlands took an early lead in the game leading 10-4 through the first quarter. The Lady Dogs came back to outscore the Lady Highlanders in the second, but Highlands still led 20-15 at halftime.
It was low scoring coming out of the half, but Highlands maintained their lead and were in control with a 25-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Dogs weren’t done and dropped 18 points and only allowed Highlands to score seven en route to their comeback win thanks to a huge fourth-quarter rally.
By defeating Highlands, the Lady Dogs secured their second straight win.
Defeating Blue Ridge
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a huge win over Blue Ridge Early College on Friday night, shutting them out in two quarters.
They got out to an early lead by outscoring the Lady Bobcats 15-0 in the first quarter. The Lady Dogs tacked on 20 more points in the second quarter to lead 35-3 at halftime.
They kept the ball rolling in the second half with their second shutout quarter in the third. The Lady Dogs added on 16 more points to lead 51-3 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bobcats had their highest-scoring quarter of the game in the fourth with four points.
The Lady Dogs scored 12 points of their own to win 63-7 for their third straight victory.
Loss to Gilmer County, Ga.
The Lady Dogs’ win streak ended at three games Saturday, when they fell to Gilmer County in Ellijay, Ga.
They faced off against Gilmer County, which is a 3A school. The Lady Dogs lost 67-22 in their third game last week.
The Lady Dogs are now 1-1 against teams from Georgia.

Murphy will kick off a three-game homestead by hosting Smoky Mountain Conference opponent Hayesville at 6:30 p.m.
Friday.
At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Lady Dogs will host Robbinsville as their SMC schedule begins to pick up before the final few weeks.
