Robbinsville – The Murphy girls varsity basketball team hit the road for their first Big Smoky Mountain Conference game of the season.
The Lady Bulldogs took on Robbinsville and lost 59-34 Friday night. The Lady Black Knights took an early lead and maintained it throughout the game.
Robbinsville took a 10-point lead in the first quarter, then tacked on 18 more points in the second quarter to lead 32-12 heading into halftime.
The Lady Dogs had their highest-scoring quarter in the third with 13 points. Robbinsville also scored 13 points in the third to maintain its large lead.
In the fourth period, Robbinsville added 11 points, while Murphy scored nine, for the Lady Black Knights to get the 59-24 win.
Every Lady Dog got on the score sheet Friday night. Charlie Stalcup and Emma Hensley led the team with five points each. Ilie Smith, Marley Blackwell and Ella Howard had four points each. Emma Laney and Cayla Geer had three points.
Geer’s three points came in the Lady Dogs’ 13-point third quarter. Kennedy White, Julia Dockery and Patience Garrett had two points each.
The Lady Bulldogs will play Franklin twice before winter break. Their first matchup is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at home, then at 6:30 p.m. Monday on the road. At 6 p.m. Friday, they will face in-county rivals Hiwassee Dam on the road for their first meeting of the season.
