Brasstown – Racing fans were treated to two days of races over the weekend, with a demolition derby wrapping it up, all dedicated to late track owner Jack Wimpey.

Race fans came to Tri-County Racetrack on Saturday and Sunday. Some even got to participate in Sunday’s spectator race.

The festivities kicked off Saturday with four feature races and practices for three classes of Sunday’s racers. Before the racing got started, 602, 604 and limited late model held two practice sessions in preparation for their features Sunday.

Saturday’s racing kicked off with open wheel modified hitting the track in a 15-lap feature. The race was won by Brawley Stillwell of Andrews. Kenny Taylor of Dallas, Ga., came in second and Griffin Wilson of Waynesville came in third.

In the street stock feature, Roger Beaver of Murphy got the win. Tucker Anderson of Blairsville, Ga., came in second and Johnny Hannah of Clyde came in third.

The front-wheel drive feature was won by Tank Ingram of Hayesville after starting on pole position. In second place was Joshua Smith of Hiawassee, Ga., while in third was Jonathan Hamby.

To close out Saturday night, the Crown Vics hit the track. Jason Newton of Murphy got the win. David Blair of Rincon, Ga., came in second place, and Justin Hughes of Blairsville came in third. Ricky Dyer of Murphy came in fourth place, while Joe Rigdon of Waynesville came in fifth.

Despite rain early in the day, the 602 crate late models took to the track Sunday, and it was an all Murphy top three. Colton Berrong took the top spot, with Cooper Twiggs in second and Charles Devine in third.

In the 604 feature, Junior Whitener of Blue Ridge got the win. Mitchell Stanley of Chatsworth, Ga., came in second place, while in third was Michael Luna of Sparta, Tenn.

Limited late models then took to the track, and Murphy’s Dante Curtis got the win. Booger Brooks of Chickamauga, Ga., came in second place, while Garrett Williams of Kennesaw, Ga., came in third.

Then the spectators took to the track. The only requirements were that the car must be a daily driver; it must have a working seat belt; it must have current tags, insurance and registration.

With $500 on the line, Tucker Anderson and Avery Breedlove got the win in their Dodge Caravan minivan.

To wrap up a weekend of racing, a 100-lap demolition derby took place. Jim and Cooper Twiggs got the win in an exciting race.
