Hiwassee Dam – The Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles endured a tough week of competition, taking down the Union County Lady Panthers in five sets to start the week before falling to the Murphy Lady Bulldogs and Blue Ridge Early College Lady Bobcats later in the week.
While the Lady Eagles suffered losses at the hands of the Lady Dogs and Cats, Hiwassee Dam was competitive in both matches, showing head coach Sam Walker the potential his team possesses.
“We’re still just a fraction away of actually bringing everything together,” Walker said after the Lady Eagles’ loss to Murphy.
Hiwassee Dam nearly took two sets from Murphy, coming up just short in the second and third sets, 25-19 and 25-23.
The Lady Eagles just barely missed out on picking up the win against Union County, narrowly falling in the fifth set 16-14.
Walker said that inconsistency is one of the team’s biggest weaknesses, along with lack of confidence and experience.
“These girls get down on themselves when they shouldn’t,” Walker said. “That’s part of mental preparedness and I think its more experience. Even though we’ve got some seniors on this team, we need to be playing almost year-round to be competing with some of these groups.”
The Lady Eagles (6-7) lost in four sets to the Swain County Lady Devils on Monday night. Set scores and statistics were unavailable by press time Tuesday.
