Hiwassee Dam – After a streak of tough matches against the Murphy Lady Dogs , Blue Ridge Lady Bobcats and Swain County Lady Devils, the Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles found their footing against Cherokee, sweeping the Lady Braves on Sept. 30.
Lady Eagles head coach Sam Walker said that his team looked the most coordinated he’s seen them this season in the win against Cherokee.
The Lady Eagles came out strong, downing the Lady Braves 25-15 in the first two sets before turning on the heat and finishing the job in the third, 25-7.
“We played better tonight, as a team, than we have all year,” Walker said after the victory.
“Our transitioning was really great, we talked to each other and got our first serves in. If we remember this day, we should be fine for the rest of the year.”
Sitting at 7-8 with just five games remaining on the season, Walker said it’s going to take some heavy hitting to put together a streak to end the year.
“As long as we’re hitting the ball,” Walker said. “If we’re in transition and we’re hitting the ball well like we did tonight. We’re hard to beat.”
The Lady Eagles fell to Highlands after the Cherokee Scout’s press time Tuesday, dimming their chances for another Little Smoky Mountain Conference title.
