Hiwassee Dam’s varsity baseball team took on Hayesville – who remained undefeated in conference play after its series with the Eagles.
The first game was a slugfest as the teams combined for 38 runs, then the Eagles fell again in the second game.
The Eagles also took on state-line rivals Copper Basin, Tenn.
Eagles fall on road
In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the Eagles fell to Copper Basin, Tenn., on the road 15-2.
The Cougars got the scoring started on April 13 with four runs in the first inning. They extended their lead with five runs in the second inning and three runs in the third to lead 12-0.
The Eagles drove in two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but then Copper Basin scored three more runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 15-2.
The Cougars held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the fifth, and the Eagles lost 15-2.
Dalton Kester ad Pace Ware scored the Eagles’ only runs in the game. Kester, as well as Elijah Cole and Wyatt Davenport, had one hit each.
Noah Watkins had the team’s only RBI.
Watkins, Kester, Ware and Cole Elliott split pitching duties in the game.
Boys fall in slugfest
The Eagles played their first home game after spring break and lost to Hayesville in a slugfest, as the teams combined for 38 runs in the five-inning game.
Hiwassee Dam hosted Hayesville on April 14, when the Eagles fell 28-10 to the Yellow Jackets.
The Jackets opened the game with 11 runs in the top of the first inning. They then added five more runs in the top of the second inning to take a 16-0 lead.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second as they drove home five runs to trail 16-5. Both teams scored three runs in the third inning as the Jackets led 19-8.
Hayesville then scored five more runs in the fourth inning to take a 24-8 lead. The Eagles then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they trailed 24-10.
The Jackets took a 28-10 lead in the top of the fifth inning as they scored four runs. The Eagles didn’t score in the bottom of the fifth inning and lost 28-10.
Eagles fall Friday
The Eagles went on the road to Hayesville on Friday, where they lost 15-1.
The Jackets got the scoring started with seven runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second to lead 10-0.
They continued to add onto their lead with four runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth to lead 15-0. The Eagles scored one run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Jackets won the game in 4.5 innings.
Davenport scored the Eagles’ lone run Friday. Cole and Ben Loudermilk had the Eagles’ two hits in the game. Loudermilk also had an RBI to score Davenport.
Cole had two stolen bases and Kester had one.
On the mound, Elliott pitched three innings and Cole threw one. Cole had three strikeouts, but allowed one run on one hit and one walk.

The Eagles will return to the diamond Friday, as they are set to play a doubleheader on the road against Roman. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m., with the second game being played right after.
