Ball movement powering
Lady Dogs’ potent offense

Body

Murphy – Most people are familiar with the houding defense of the Lady Dogs, but with plenty of games left to play, Murphy’s offense is picking up speed rapidly.
In their recent win over Hayesville, Murphy dropped 71 points on the Lady Jackets, which combined with the Lady Dogs’ defense, led to a hefty 71-47 victory.
As the season has progressed, so has the Murphy offense, with ball movement becoming a major cog in the Lady Dogs’ machine.
“From the first game to tonight, I thought we dribbled an awful lot early on and didn’t move the ball,” Lady Dogs head coach Ray Gutierrez said of the team’s offensive growth since the start of the season.
“Whereas now we are a good passing basketball team and they understand how contagious unselfishness can be and is. They like seeing their teammates succeed and do a good job of passing the ball.”
With Murphy’s elite defense forcing turnovers and tough shots, the floor opens up in transition for the Lady Dogs to get out and get easy baskets.
“Our two keys were; One, play with pace, push the ball and get as many offensive possessions as possible and the second was to just play good, solid defense,” Gutierrez said of the Hayesville game. “I think we did that well in the first half. They only had 16 points total in the first half and we were able to turn their turnovers into easy offense.”
