Eagles swept by Knights before spring break

    Hiwassee Dam varsity baseball and softball played a two-game series against Robbinsville, where the Eagles were swept by the Black Knights.
    The Eagles were in action before they headed to spring break and suffered losses to the strong Black Knights teams.

Girls fall 10-0
    The Lady Eagles varsity softball team started their two-game series against Robbinsville on March 30. Hiwassee Dam fell 10-0 in five innings.
    After a scoreless first inning on Robbinsville’s home turf, the Lady Knights got the scoring started. They scored eight runs in the bottom of the second, then added one more in the third to lead 9-0.
    The fourth inning was scoreless from both sides, then the Lady Knights scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game and win 10-0.
    The Lady Eagles were held to two hits, with one each from Gracie Rhodes and Brinkley Payne.
    Josey Ware, Avery McNabb and Leah Taylor also got on base after being walked.
    Abby Harris pitched for the Lady Eagles and gave up 10 runs on eight hits. She also had two strikeouts.

Girls fall 15-0
    The Lady Eagles were back in action on their home field on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Knights got the series sweep as the Lady Eagles fell 15-0 in five innings.
    The Knights scored one run in the top of the first inning for an early lead. They then tacked on seven runs in the top of the second inning to lead 8-0.
    After a scoreless third inning, they added five runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 13-0.
    In the top of the fifth inning, the Knights added five runs to win 15-0.
    The Lady Eagles were held hitless in the game, but McNabb was walked to end the Knights’ perfect game.

Boys fall 12-2
    The Eagles baseball team were in action on March 31 in the first game of the series against Robbinsville.
    The Knights got the 12-2 win in six innings. 
    The Eagles scored the first run of the game for an early lead, but the Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead 3-1.
    The Knights then added three more in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 6-1.
    The Eagles drove in a run in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 6-2. The Knights then scored two run in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 8-2.
    After a scoreless fourth inning, the Knights added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to lead 12-2. They took a 10-run lead after the fifth inning to win the game.
    Elijah Cole and Cole Elliott scored the two runs for the Eagles. Noah Watkins, Dalton Kester and Elliott had one hit each. Aiden Weaver had the RBI to score Elliott.
    Cole also had two stolen bases in the loss. 
    Watkins, Kester, Elliott and Abel Penland split time on the mound in the loss. Kester led the team in strikeouts with three.

Boys fall 17-5
    The Eagles were back in action on Thursday as they hosted Robbinsville. The Knights got the win 17-5 in six innings.
    Both teams drove in two runs in the first inning, then the Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the second to lead 3-2.
    The Knights then exploded for seven runs in the top of the third to lead 9-3. The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 9-5.
    The Knights then further extended their lead with seven more runs in the top of the fourth to lead 16-5. 
    The Knights added one more run in the top of the fifth to lead 17-5 and earn the win.
    Weaver and Penland scored two runs each, while Watkins scored one run. Kester, Elliott, Nickolas Sorbera and Braden Trow had one RBI each.
    Penland had three stolen bases, while Weaver, Watkins and Cole had one each.
    Penland and Cole split time on the mound in the loss. Cole earned four strikeouts.
