Eagles fall to Swain

Hiwassee Dam – In their three-game week, the Eagles lost to Smoky Mountain Conference opponents Swain County and tied against Copper Basin, Tenn.

They started their week March 11, as the Eagles traveled to Bryson City to take on their first conference opponents, Swain.

Swain got out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning, then the Eagles scored one in the second to trail 3-1. Swain then added three more runs over the third and fourth innings to lead 6-1 heading into the fifth.

Hiwassee Dam scored two runs to make it a three-run game, but Swain rallied late to drive in seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game 13-3.

The Eagles scored three runs on two hits. The runs were scored by Abel Penland, Luke Harbin and Dailon Defalco.

On Thursday, the Eagles traveled to Copper Basin to play the Cougars for a second time this season. It ended in a 6-6 tie after severe weather ended the game after two complete innings.

All 12 runs in the game were scored in only the first inning.

On Friday, the Eagles wrapped up their week by returning home to host Swain County in the second game in their series. The Eagles fell 20-5 in their second home game this season.

Swain got the game started with three runs in the first, then the Eagles added one in the bottom of the first.

Swain then scored 10 runs in the top of the third. They added four in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth in a late rally, but couldn’t extend the game.

The Eagle’s next game is Thursday at 4:30 p.m. as they host Tellico Plains, Tenn. At 4:30 p.m. Friday, they will host Hayesville to wrap up the week. On Tuesday, they will travel to Robbinsville at 4:30 p.m.
