The Hiwassee Dam baseball and softball teams faced off against Robbinsville in a two-game series, with Robbinsville winning all four games.

Softball

Hiwassee Dam traveled to Robbinsville for the first game in the home-and-home series against Smoky Mountain Conference opponents and lost 4-3 on March 25.

The game opened with two full scoreless inning before the Lady Eagles struck first in the top of the third. With two outs, Brinkley Payne singled and Olivia McNabb scored from second base. McNabb was walked, then stole second base, to get into scoring position.

Robbinsville tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. The game stayed at 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when Robbinsville took a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles tied the game 2-2. After Avery McNabb doubled, then stole third base, Sky Taylor hit a two-out RBI single to score her.

Robbinsville added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 4-2.

In the top of the seventh, Avery McNabb singled and scored Kalli Hagelin – who was pinch running for Olivia Williams – to make it 4-3. Despite a late rally, the Lady Eagles couldn’t tie the game or take the lead to extend it, and Robbinsville won.

The Lady Eagles out hit the Robbinsville 9-4. Avery McNabb led the team with three hits, including a double. Taylor had two hits. Olivia McNabb had two stolen bases, while Avery McNabb, Josey Ware and Payne had one each.

Olivia McNabb pitched a complete game, giving gave up four runs on four hits. She walked three Lady Black Knight batters and struck out seven in her 88-pitch outing.

The Lady Eagles hosted Robbinsville in the second game of their series Friday and struggled to get their offense going, losing 10-0.

Robbinsville drove in at least one run in the first four innings to build a 10-0 lead. The Lady Eagles couldn’t cut into the lead, and the game ended after five innings.

The Lady Eagles had three hits in the game, as Olivia McNabb had two and Abby Harris had one.

Baseball

The Eagles also traveled to Robbinsville to start their two-game week. In the first of their two-game series with the Black Knights, the Eagles lost 6-4 despite a late rally.

The Eagles took an early lead with one run in the top of the first inning. After Elijah Cole hit a two-out double, he stole third on a passed ball, then scored on an error, to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The game stayed 1-0 until the Eagles extended their lead in the top of the third inning. Cole got his second double of the day with two outs and scored his second run of the day, as Trenton Beavers hit a double to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the third, Robbinsville made it a one-run game. The Knights’ bats got hot in the bottom of the fifth, when they scored four runs to take the lead. They added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to lead 6-2 heading into the seventh inning.

The Eagles drove home two runs in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t tie the game or take the lead, and the Knights won 6-4.

On Friday, they played the second game in the series at the Eagles’ home ballpark. It was a tough game for the Eagles, as they lost 14-2 in five innings.

Robbinsville scored four runs to start the game, but the Eagles scored two runs courtesy of Cole and Luke Harbin. The Knights went on to extend their lead with one run in the second inning, and nine more in the top of the fourth, to win 14-2.
