Hiwassee Dam – It wasn’t an easy week for Eagles baseball, as the team dropped two games to Hayesville on April 19 (15-5) and 22 (12-2) and lost 10-0 to Polk County, Tenn., on Thursday.
Against the Yellow Jackets (8-1 overall, 6-1 Smoky Mountain Conference) on April 19, the game was tied at 1 after the first inning before Hayesville scored two in the second, six in the third and five in the fourth to put the game into mercy rule territory. The Yellow Jackets only had eight hits in the game, but took advantage of seven Eagles (5-9, 3-5) errors.
Three days later, it was another mercy rule loss. Hiwassee Dam scored two runs in the top of the first before Hayesville responded with three in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. The Yellow Jackets would score in every inning before one in the bottom of the fifth ended the game.
Hiwassee Dam also struggled against Polk County (12-8) getting just one hit. The Wildcats scored in all but the first inning, including four in the bottom of the fifth to force a mercy rule win.
The Eagles hosted Murphy on Tuesday, which took place after this week’s edition of the Cherokee Scout went to press. They travel to Murphy on Friday.
