Dogs’ soccer loses to Franklin

Franklin – The Murphy women’s soccer team traveled for its final-regular season match, losing 3-1.

In their match against Franklin on May 7, the Lady Bulldogs fell 3-1 in a must-win if they wanted to keep their hopes alive of hosting a first-round match.

Murphy’s lone goal was scored by Ella Ledford. She scored on her only sash on goal and also had two steals.

Kaydence Walton led the team in steals with 10. Haile Hill had nine steals, Ella Conley had seven, Tina Bui had six, Addison Peterson had five, Isabel Parker and Tyra Nelson had four and Faith Lescalleet had three.

Goalkeeper Ella Howard had 14 saves on 17 shots.

Murphy finished the regular season with a 9-7-1 overall record. Hill led the team in goal during the regular season with 30. She also led the team in assists with seven and steals with 138.

Along with Hill, four other Lady Bulldogs had more than 100 steals. Parker had 132, Bui had 117 and Walton had 112.

Following the loss, the Lady Dogs were seeded No. 17 in the 1A playoffs and faced No. 16 seed Leadership Academy. The team traveled to Kernersville after the Cherokee Scout’s press time Tuesday; results will be published in the May 21 edition of the Cherokee Scout.

Leadership Academy went 11-9 overall, finishing fourth in the Northwest Piedmont Conference.
