Dogs fall at state to N. Stokes

Danbury – In the first round of the state 1A playoffs, the Murphy baseball team hit the road to take on North Stokes, falling 7-1 to the Vikings on May 6.

North Stokes got out to an early lead with one run in the first inning and three more in the second inning. They added on two more in the fourth inning to lead 6-0.

The Dogs got on the board in the fifth inning, when Alex Roldan scored to make it 6-1.

The Vikings added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Dogs couldn’t make a late rally in the top of the seventh.

Roldan, as well as Zack Hogsed, Colton Morgan, Grayson Hall and Aayden Williams had a hit for the Dogs. Morgan had the RBI that scored Roldan for their lone run.

Hogsed and Morgan split duties on the mound. Morgan pitched 4 innings, giving up six runs on five hits. He had four walks and two strikeouts.

Hogsed pitched two innings, giving up one run on three this, with one walk and one strikeout. Murphy’s pitchers combined for 116 pitches in the 32 batters they faced.

North Stokes went on to defeat Union Academy in the second round on May 9.

The Dogs end their season with an 8-12 overall record.
