Murphy – A moment 36 seasons in the making transpired Friday night as Murphy football coach David Gentry tied Jack Holley as the Winningest Coach in North Carolina Football history in front of a packed crowd.

Gentry and his Bulldogs dominated the Hayesville Yellow Jackets 62-14 to earn him the record-tying victory.

While Gentry was pleased to tie the record and took a moment after the game to tip his hat to the crowd of players and spectators gathered around him on the field, he was already looking forward to next week.

"There's always another number," Gentry said after the victory. "The main thing is for this team to win. If they win, then I'll get the number."

"Let's just win," Gentry continued. "We'll let the numbers take care of themselves."

Gentry now has the opportunity to establish himself alone on the North Carolina football coaching throne against the Swain County Maroon Devils next week, the same team that Gentry recorded his 400th win against last season.
