Blairsville, Ga. – It was another good week for the Murphy boys golf team, as the Bulldogs topped Highlands, Robbinsville and Hayesville in a competition on March 29 and then Union County in a match on March 31.
Murphy dominated the competition on March 29, which took place at its home course of Old Union Golf Course. The Bulldogs’ top four scorers shot a combined 164, 47 strokes clear of the second-place Highlanders.
Murphy’s golfers were the top four scorers in the match, with Wyatt Simmons shooting 35 through nine holes, Conner Golden shooting 41 and Andrew Barolet and Bradey Golden shooting 44. Simmons shot one-under par, including birdies on the first, third and sixth holes.
Murphy traveled to Butternut Creek Golf Course for its match against the Panthers, and its foursome shot a combined 172 to best the hosts by 11 strokes. Simmons led the way again with a 38, while Bradey Golden shot 40, Connor Golden 41 and Hugh Martin 53. Simmons and Brady and Conner Golden scores were lower than Union County’s highest-scoring golfer.
The Bulldogs had another match Tuesday at Old Union with golfers from Hayesville, Highlands, Robbinsville and Nantahala, which took place after this week’s edition of the Cherokee Scout went to press. Their last match before the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament is Monday, April 18, at Union against those same teams.
