Murphy ties in second home game against 4A school

Murphy – In only its second game of the season, the Murphy boys soccer team tied with Tuscola.

After both teams scored in first half, tensions rose in the match. Murphy’s Tyler Payne gave the Bulldogs a go-ahead goal before halftime with a header, assisted by Aaron Harger.

Jaden Rice scored the first goal for Murphy. His goal was assisted by Payne.

After leading 2-1 at halftime, the Dogs maintained the lead until Tuscola scored the equalizer to make it 2-2.

The match stayed at 2-2 when the final buzzer went off. With the draw, Murphy is now 0-1-1 this season.

Cale Harger made 11 saves in net for the Dogs.

Murphy will be in action again today against Pisgah. Pisgah has started the season with three wins and a draw.

They started their season with a win against Tri-County Early College. They then tied with Chase.

The Dogs’ second win of the season came on the road against R-S Central in Rutherfordton. They then returned home and defeated Highlands.

The Dogs are 0-1-1 after a loss to Smoky Mountain and a tie with Tuscola.

After facing Pisgah, the Dogs will take on in-county and conference rivals Tri-County Early College at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. After facing Tri-County, the Dogs will travel to their next conference opponent Swain County to take on the rival Maroon Devils at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.
