The blackpowder season for deer in the western part of North Carolina will wrap up on Friday, Nov. 29 and gun season will kick off shortly after.
Gun season will kick off on Saturday, Nov. 30 and run until Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.
Out of each region of the state, the western region has the latest start date for gun use in deer season.
Archery season on deer in the western region wrapped up on Nov. 15.
Other active hunting seasons include raccoon, opossum, rabbit, quail, pheasant and grouse and bobcat. Those seasons run until Feb. 28, 2025.
Squirrel season is also active with Gray and Red squirrel season running until Feb. 28, 2025 and fox squirrel season going until Jan. 31, 2025.
Trout stocking
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission annoucned that they will be stocking over 60,000 trout from its Bobby N. Setzer fish hatchery into 40 small lakes and ponds.
They will began stocking on Nov. 25 and will continue through Dec. 19. They will be stocking brook, brown and rainbow strout to provide seasonal anglers opportunities to catch trout this winter.
All fish stocked will be 10 inches or larger. Anglers can harvest up to seven trout per day in the impoudnments. There are no bait restrictions and no minimum size.
“The Wildlife Commission is committed to providing fishing opportunities for the public and given teh damage Armstrong Fish Hatchery sustained as a result of Hurricane Helene, fisheries staff are pleased to be able to make this happen in addition to fall Delayed Harvest stocking,” NCWRC Fish Production Supervisor David Deaton said.
