Andrews Wildcats, Murphy Bulldogs track run well in Swain County

Body

Bryson City – Five local high school track & field teams competed at Swain County High School as they prepare for important upcoming meets.

Andrews, Murphy, Hiwassee Dam and Tri-County Early College, as well as Carolina Mountain XC, competed on April 15. This was the first time this season all local teams have competed at the same meet.

It was a close battle for first place in the boys team scores, with Andrews coming in first place with 135 points and Murphy coming in second with 133 points.

The Andrews girls came in third place in team scores with 99 points, while Murphy came in fourth with 76 points.

Hiwassee Dam boys came in fifth with 36 points and its girls team came in 10th with eight points. Tri-County Early College girls came in sixth with 42 points and the boys came in eighth with 10 points.

Carolina Mountain XC – a Murphy-based homeschool team – also competed, with its girls team scoring 15 points to finish in eighth place.

Each local team had numerous athletes finish in the top five in their respective events as they scored their team points at the meet.

 

Andrews

The Wildcat boys earned the win at the meet, with two athletes coming in first place, as well as a relay win. Logan Shuler came in first in high jump and Myca Mustin came in first in triple jump, while the boys 4x400-meter relay team casein first.

For the Lady Wildcats, Kaiya Ellis came in first in three events, while the girls relay teams won two races.

Ellis came in first in the 100m hurdles, triple jump and high jump. The girls 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams earned wins.

Multiple Andrews boys earned top five finishes at the meet. Phisher Baxter came in fourth in the 100m dash and fifth in the 200m dash. Isaac Patrick came in fourth in the 200m dash.

Mustin also came in third in the 400m dash. Jayce Donaldson came in third in the 800m and fourth in the 1,600m runs. Elliott Salinas came in third in the 1,600m run.

Caleb Helton came in third in both the high jump and long jump. AJ Johnson came in second in the in long jump. Christian Helton came in second in triple jump.

Logan Patrick came in third in shot put. The boys 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams both came in second place.

The Lady Wildcats also had multiple top five finishes at the meet.

Yesenia Hernandez came in fourth in the 400m dash. Marley Blackwell came in fourth and Juliet Holloway came in fifth in the long jump.

In triple jump, Sadie Mustin came in third and Natalie Garrett came in fifth. Alexis Beasley came in second in shot put.

The girls 4x400m relay team came in third place.

 

Murphy

Five Bulldogs came in first place in six different events. Aaron Harger came in first in discus, Cale Harger came in first in long jump, Ryan Payne came in first in the 400m dash, Valorie Jordan came in first in the 300m hurdles and Camden Breazeale came in first in both the 110m and 300m hurdles.

The Dogs had multiple top five finishes in various events at the meet. 

For the boys, David Rochester came in third in the 200m dash.Jaden Rice came in fourth in the 400m dash with Lane Hembree coming in fifth in the same event.

Cale Harger also came in fourth place in the triple jump. Trenton Cook came in fourth in discus. Breazeale also came in fifth place in shot put.

The boys relay team also came in fourth place in both the 4x100m and 4x400m races.

For the girls, Rylee Tabor came in second in the 100m dash and third in the 200m dash.

In high jump, Bella Kent and Kinlee Herr tied for fifth place. Jordan also came in fourth in the triple jump. 

Ansley Roper came in third in discus and Amelia Joyner came in fourth. Joyner also came in third in shot put.

The girls relay teams came in third in the 4x800m and fifth in the 4x100m races.

 

Hiwassee Dam

The Eagles had multiple good finishes at the meet, led by Oscar Page and Maverick Hawley. Page finished in first in both the 1,600m and 3,200m runs, while Hawley coming in second place in both events as they continue to dominate the distance runs.

Also competing for the boys was Johnathan Bennett, who came in 20th in discus and tied for 24th in shot put. Brandon Bishop tied for 24th as well in shot put, as well as chem in 23rd in discus.

For the Lady Eagles, their highest finisher was Sarah Stock’s fifth place finish in discus. She also came in ninth in shot put. 

Avery Freemon came in seventh place in the 1,600m run. She also came in 10th in the 800m run. 

Chloe McNabb came in seventh place in the high jump. In long jump, Kaitlyn Lecoq came in ninth and Bella Krauter-Fabrizi came in 16th. 

Lecoq also came in 11th in the. 100m dash, while Krauter-Fabrizi came in 17th. Lecoq also came in 10th in the 100m hurdles.

In the 800m run, Krauter-Fabrizi came in 14th and Hailee Barney came in 17th. 

 

Tri-County

The Jaguars were led by Fern Crayton, who came in first place in the 1,600m run. She also came in second in the 800m run and fifth in the 400m dash.

Sophia Smith came in third place in the 400m dash, running a team’s season best time of 1:09.68.

Also in the 400m dash, Bryanna Jaime came in ninth and Kadeesha Sudderth came in 11th. 

In the 800m run, Smith came in sixth and Jaime came in eighth. Smith also came in fourth place in the 1,600m run. 

The girls 4x400m relay team came in fourth place. 

For the boys, the 4x800m relay team had the highest finish as they came in third. The 4x400m relay team also came in fifth place. 

Jovani Baker came in ninth in the 400m dash and 14th in the 200m dash. Julian Arvizu came in ninth in the 800m run and 19th in shot put. 

In the 800m run, Daniel Bickham came in 12th and Mason Smith came in 13th. 

Leo Henningfeld came in 10th in the 400m dash and 16th in the 200m dash.

 

Carolina Mountain XC

Carolina Mountain XC had three athletes run in the Swain County meet, with Rachel Carver having the highest finish. She came in third in the 1,600m run as well as fourth place in the 800m run. 

Rebecca Carver came in sixth in the 1,600m run and 12th in the 200m dash.

Macy Skirvin came in eighth in the 200m dash and 13th in the 100m dash.
