Both the Lady Wildcats and Lady Eagles saw their seasons come to an end this week.

Andrews was given the No. 30 seed in the first round of the playoffs and fell at No. 3 seed Uwharrie Charter in straight sets (25-8, 25-9, 25-14). After playing well in a straight-set loss to Murphy to end the regular season, the Lady Wildcats struggled against Hayesville (25-10, 25-12) in the conference tournament before falling to the Eagles. Andrews finished the season 5-11.

“Any time you make playoffs, that’s something to be really proud of,” Lady Wildcats head coach Shanna Mustin said. “We were right on the line and didn’t know if we were going to make it. I’m proud that these girls worked so hard all season.”

Hiwassee Dam fell to Blue Ridge 2-0 in the Little Smoky Mountain Conference tournament and didn’t qualify for the playoffs. After starting the season 3-1, Hiwassee Dam went on a two-week pause due to COVID-19 on Aug. 31 and the Lady Eagles never recovered, going 3-18 the rest of the season.

“We could not get any momentum going after we had the COVID shutdown,” Hiwassee Dam head coach Sam Walker said. “The girls didn’t seem to get their mojo back.”
