Andrews High hosts 1st conference track meet

Andrews – Track and field teams from the Smoky Mountain Conference descended on The Valley for the first conference meet of the season during a warm afternoon under the sun on March 19.

In team points totals, the Murphy boys team came in second place with 134 points. The Andrews girls team also came in second place with 167 points.

For the boys, Andrews came in third place with 118.5 points, Hiwassee Dam came in fifth with 56.5 points and Tri-County Early College came in eighth with 11 points.

For the girls, Murphy came in fourth with 63 points, TCEC came in sixth with 21 points and Hiwassee Dam came in eighth with 11 points.

Boys

Myca Mustin of Andrews came in first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.02 seconds. Oscar Page of Hiwassee Dam came in first in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.76, winning by almost four seconds. Ethan Russell of Hiwassee Dam came in first in the 3,200m run with a time of 10:54.27, winning by almost 30 seconds.

Camden Breazeale of Murphy came in first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.96, winning by almost three seconds. He also won the 300m hurdles by almost four seconds.

Murphy’s 4x200m relay won the event by almost four seconds over Andrews.

In the field events, Logan Shuler of Andrews won the high jump with a personal best jump of 6 foot 7, setting a new school record.

Kegan Ellis of Andrews won the long jump, jumping seven inches further than Cale Harger of Murphy in second place. Myca Mustin won the triple jump at almost four feet further than Ellis.

William Wood of Andrews won the discus event for a second straight meet.

Top-five finishers include, Ryan Payne and Cameron Clem of Murphy coming in second and third in the 100m, Blake Davis of Murphy coming in third and Caleb Helton of Andrews coming in fifth in the 200m, and Brody Mcfaddin of Murphy coming in third in the 400m.

Russell and Page came in second and third, respectively, in the 1,600m. Chase Beasley of Andrews came in third and Ryan Morrow of Murphy came in fifth in the 100m hurdles. Beasley and Braydon Garrett came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 300m hurdles.

Murphy came in third in the 4x100m relay. Andrews came in second in the 4x200m relay.

Helton of Andrews and Jonah Dockery of Hiwassee Dam tied for fourth in the high jump. Cale Harger and Breazeale of Murphy came in second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump, while Brady McLelland of Andrews came in fifth.

Ellis came in second, and Anthony Catuto of Murphy came in third in the triple jump. Brody Orton of Murphy came in fifth in the discus. Orton and Aaron Harger of Murphy came in third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put.

Girls

Fern Crayton of Tri-County Early College won the 1,600m run and was almost eight seconds faster than the second place finisher.

The 4x100m relay team from Andrews won with a time of 53.53 seconds.

Kylie Donaldson of Andrews won the triple jump and jumped almost two feet farther than the second-place finisher. Kaiya Ellis of Andrews finished tied for first in the high jump.

Top-five finishers include, Donaldson in second and Marley Blackwell of Murphy in fourth in the 100m dash, Juliet Holloway of Andrews in fourth and Rylee Tabor of Murphy in fifth in the 200m dash, and Corrine Cotton of Murphy in second and Khloe Mayfield of Andrews in fifth in the 400m.

Crayton came in second, Avery Freemon of Hiwassee Dam came in fourth, while Stephanie Hernandez of Andrews came in fifth in the 800m.

Freemon came in fourth, while Anna Leatherwood of Murphy came in fifth in the 1,600m.

Kaiya Ellis of Andrews came in second in the 100m hurdles. Mattie Mustin of Andrews came in fourth in the 400m hurdles.

Kimber Vaught and Beth Shook finished third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Donaldson, Shook and Holloway finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Ellis and Shook finished third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.

Jaden Crocker of Andrews came in second, Ansley Roper of Murphy came in third and Demi Davis of Andrews game in fourth in discus. Alexis Beasley of Andrews came in second, while Davis was third in the shot put.

Hayesville High School is hosting the next conference track meet today starting with field events and the 4x800m relay at 3:30 p.m. The remaining events will start on a rolling schedule during the afternoon.
