Elizabethton, Tenn. – It was just that close.
The Andrews Wildcats nearly went way out on the road and snatched an opening-night victory, but a blocked extra point after a lightning delay and a tackle at the 1-yard line helped Trinity Academy (Tenn.) hang on for a 42-36 win in the third overtime.
Andrews' Tucker Holloway was tackled on fourth down in the final extra period as the Cats (0-1) had a second chance to win the game with a touchdown and an extra point. The Knights blocked a potential winning kick in the second overtime after Andrews scored right out of the weather delay.
Landon White scored twice for the Wildcats and Gavin Wilson scored another on the ground.
