Hayesville – Andrews suffered a crushing loss Friday night, falling 21-20 to Hayesville after the Yellow Jackets blocked a potential game-winning field goal in the final seconds.
The Wildcats (3-5) took a serious blow to their chances for their first winning season since 2011. They had an extra point blocked earlier in the game and bobbled the snap on another PAT attempt.
The second half was scoreless as both teams battled for every yard, but the Jackets were able to hold off a frantic final drive in which Andrews’ Tucker Holloway completed passes to three different receivers and continued the dynamic running he had been displaying all night.
Landon White scored twice for Andrews, which takes on Copper Basin for homecoming next week.
