Hiwassee Dam – The Wildcats held the lead the entire game en route to defeating the host Eagles 86-71 on Friday night in the last time the Cherokee County rivals will meet this season.
Levi Clark got things started for the Cats with a 3-pointer. He then made another shot to score the first five Andrews points.
A 22-point first quarter was capped off for the Wildcats when Gabe Clark hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. That bucket gave the Cats a 22-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
Halfway through the second quarter, the Cats extended their lead to 31-18. The Wildcats continued to score and led 43-27 at halftime.
Gabe Clark led the Wildcats at halftime with 13 points, while Levi Clark scored 11 first-half points. Abel Penland led the Eagles in the first half with 10 points.
The Wildcats came out in the second half and showed they were in control of the game. Less than two minutes into the second half, the Cats led 50-29 when the Eagles called an early timeout.
Both teams scored big points in the third quarter, combining for 51 points in the third quarter. The Cats led 69-52 heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams continued to put up points in the final frame, but the Wildcats hung on to defeat the Eagles for a second time this season.
Levi Clark led the Wildcats with 29 points, with 10 points from the free-throw line. Gabe Clark had 21 points and Logan Shuler added 10.
Jonah Dockery led the Eagles with 25 points, with 17 points in the second half. Penland had 16 points and Dalton Kester added 11.
Nine of Kester’s 11 points came in the second half. Dockery and Penland were the only Eagles to score in all four quarters.
