Peachtree – More than 200 pro wrestling fans were packed in the sold-out Peachtree Community Center on Saturday night for the America Championship Wrestling Federation’s “Summer Showdown.”
During the August event, fans were treated to eight matches with multiple titles on the line. In the main event, ACWF U.S. champion Axel Freakin’ Gunn took on Thundercat.
As the match got underway, the momentum swung in favor of Thundercat. He landed multiple big moves, including flying over the top rope to land on Gunn and the American Outlaws, who were standing ringside.
Thundercat landed multiple high-flying moves before Gunn took control of the match. He landed his signature leg drop from the ropes to put down Thundercat. Once he was down, Gunn pinned him for a three count to win the match and retain his title.
After the match ended, Thundercat got on the microphone and challenged the American Outlaws to a tag-team match, where he would be joined by his friend Mike Clay.
The co-main event was a four-way elimination match. From the opening bell, it was chaos as Dreadwing and Frodo attacked each other in the ring, while Gun Metal Grey and Disturbed attacked each other outside the ring.
Gun Metal Grey was the first to be eliminated, leaving Dreadwing, Frodo and Disturbed left in the match.
Dreadwing was next to be eliminated, which left Frodo and Disturbed in the ring to battle. As they exchanged blows, Frodo landed a stunner on Disturbed, leading to the pin and three count for the win.
After the match, Frodo walked over the announcers table, grabbed the ACWF light heavyweight championship belt, then held it over his head. As he held it, he said that the title is coming home, which was met with resounding cheers from the crowd.
In the next match, Robert Starr took on Rodney Haze, who was accompanied to the ring by Kevin Walker.
Starr was ready to battle, but Haze was reluctant. After they both met in the ring, they began to fight. Throughout the match, Walker could be seen allegedly hurting Starr while the referee was not looking.
The match ended in a disqualification as Starr was found with a chain wrapped around his fist about to hit Haze. Walker and Haze gladly walked back to the locker room, no matter how they won the match.
In the match after intermission, Killshot took on Billy Havoc. As the two ACWF staples got into the ring, fans knew they were in for a great match.
Both men landed heavy shots that felt like they shook the walls of the community center. They battled it out, and it came to a head when Killshot landed a spear that could have been felt on the Richter scale. Killshot locked in the pin and won the match.
After the match, Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles came out and challenged Killshot to a match next month. Commissioner Andy said if Killshot wins next month, then he gets the ACWF heavyweight championship – no questions asked. But if Stiles wins, they will fight again in October inside of a steel cage.
During intermission, ACWF superstars came out and took photos with the fans.
In the match prior to intermission, Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles took on Void in a contenders match for the heavyweight title.
Stiles had to fight hard to land meaningful strikes as Void absorbed almost all of them. Both men finally began landing big strikes. Void used is grappling background to lock Stiles into a hold. After the referee repeatedly told Void to let go, he didn’t. As a result, the referee ended the match and Stiles won by disqualification.
The match before was tag team action. Moki and Digger James took on MD King and James Xero. This was MD King’s first match back after missing the last few months.
Before the bell even rang, MD King and James Xero began to attack Moki with a kendo stick. Once the match had made its way back to the ring and the bell had rung, King and Xero took turns attacking Moki. Moki took a beating from both men who landed big moves on him.
Moki then was able to make the tag and bring in Digger James, who was unable to turn the tides of the match. James landed his signature choke-slam and got the pin to win the match for the tag team of himself and Moki.
After the match, Moki threw fortune cookies to the crowd. During his walkout, he began handing out fortune cookies, but was attacked by MD King and James Xero.
In the second match of the night, Flex Ferguson took on Kevin Seiber in the light heavyweight tournament match.
Flex Ferguson came to the ring with a loud crowd pop as he came through the curtain and made his way to the ring. Before the match even started, the referee was thrown out by Commissioner Andy due to a possible unfair calling of the match. That’s when Stiles came out to referee.
Stiles went back and forth with Seiber during the match. Both men landed big strikes, causing loud reactions from the crowd.
While Ferguson and Stiles were talking, Seiber pushed Flex into Stiles. While Stiles was distracted, Seiber landed a low blow on Ferguson. Seiber then landed his finishing move and got the pin and the win.
After the match, Stiles wouldn’t raise Seiber’s hand in victory. He then took out his anger on Ferguson by kicking him in the ribs and knocking him down.
In the opening match Saturday night, the tag team of Adrian Guerrero and Victor Thorn took on The Fallen.
After both teams went back and forth, Victor Thorn landed a low blow and hit his finishing move. He got the pin and the team of Thorn and Guerrero won the opening match.
Before the first match, a referee came to the ring holding the ACWF tag-team championship belts. He said that he was abducted by the tag team Sexy KZito and had escaped just in time for the show Saturday. He then returned the belts to Commissioner Andy.
ACWF will return to Peachtree on Saturday, Sept. 6.
ACWF’s sister show, Obsidian Wrestling, will host their next event Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Blue Ridge Farmers Market in Blue Ridge, Ga. Doors open at 1 p.m., and wrestling starts at 4 p.m. Some ACWF stars will be in action.
