Track & field comes to Murphy; boys, girls win
Murphy – In the first Smoky Mountain Conference meet of the season, the Murphy boys and girls track and field teams secured the win in team points.
The Bulldogs had many high finishes en route to earning the victory at home. Also at the meet on March 18 were Hiwassee Dam, Cherokee and Robbinsville.

Girls earning first place in their events for Murphy were Rylee Tabor in the 100- and 200-meter dash, CJ Yarbro in the 100m hurdles and long jump, Kinlee Herr in high jump and the 4x100m relay team.
In the 100m dash, Bella Kent came in second place. In the 200m dash, Yabro came in third place.
In the 800m run, Rylei Howard came in third place, Ayla Waters came in fourth, while Anna Leatherwood came in fifth.
Leatherwood also came in fifth place in the 1,600m run.
Valorie Jordan came in second in the 100m hurdles.
In the field events, Kent came in second in high jump. Jordan came in second, while Kenzly Yarbro came in fourth, in long jump.
In the triple jump, CJ Yarbro came in second and Jordan finished fourth.
In discus, Ansley Roper came in second and Amelia Joyner third. Joyner came in second and Roper fourth in shot put.
Coming in first place for the boys were Ryan Payne in the 400m dash, Camden Breazeale in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, Cale Harger in triple jump, Aaron Harger in discus and the 4x200m relay team.
David Rochester came in second in the 100m dash and Way Herron came in fifth. In the 200m dash, Rochester came in second and Herron came in third.
In the 400m dash, Jaden Rice came in second and Lane Hembree came in third.
Daybies Sutton finished fifth in the 1,600m run.
In the relay events, the 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m boys teams came in second.
In long jump, Cale Harger came in second, Remy Staples came in fourth and LJ Polowski came in fifth.
Dorian Taylor came in third in the triple jump.
Trenton Cook came in second in discus.
In shot put, Breazeale came in third, Aaron Harger came in fourth and Cook came in fifth.
Hiwassee Dam
The Eagles dominated the distance events, with Oscar Page and Maverick Hawley having strong finishes.
Page earned first place in the 800m and 1,600m runs, while Hawley came in first in the 3,200m run and second in the 1,600m run.
Also for the Hiwassee Dam boys, Jonathan Bennett came in 11th in shot put and 12th in discus. Brandon Bishop came in 12th in shot put and 13th in discus.
The Hiwassee Dam girls had multiple top-five finishes in various events. Chloe McNabb was the highest girls finisher with third place in the high jump.
Kaitlyn Lecoq earned fourth place in both the 100m dash and long jump. Avery Freemon came in fourth in the 1600m run. Sarah Stock came in fifth in discus.
In the 100m dash, Hailee Barney came in sixth and Bella Krauter-Fabrizi came in seventh.
Barney also came in ninth in the 800m run. Krauter-Fabrizi also came in eighth in the long jump.
Stock came in seventh in shot put, while McNabb came in 12th in both the discus and shot put.

Murphy and Hiwassee Dam will head to Cherokee today, while Andrews and Tri-County Early College are heading to Robbinsville.
Both meets are set to begin just after 3 p.m.
