As the Murphy varsity baseball team wrapped up its regular season, they split the final series with Robbinsville.
The Bulldogs defeated the Black Knights in the opener, then fell in the last game of the regular season.
Dogs beat Knights
The Bulldogs opened their series against Robbinsville by defeating the Knights 10-0 at home on April 27.
The Dogs got on the board early in their final regular season home game. They drove in three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
They kept it rolling after a scoreless second inning as they added six more runs to lead 9-0 through three innings. After they scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning, they held the Knights scoreless in the top of the fifth to win the game 10-0.
Zack Hogsed, Aayden Williams and Kaden Curtis led the Dogs as they scored two runs each. Jonah Godsey, Nathan Skogen, Konner Dockery and Grayson Hall scored one run each.
Hogsed and Williams led the team with two RBI each. Curtis led the Dogs with three stolen bases. Skogen, Hogsed, Dockery and Cameron Clem had one stolen base each.
On the mound, Colton Morgan threw a 81-pitch complete game. He allowed only three hits and two walks in the shutout win. He also struck out 10 out of the 20 batters he faced.
Dogs end with loss
The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season with a 5-4 loss to the Knights on Thursday.
The Dogs took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. The Knights then made it a one-run game in the bottom of the second inning.
Murphy extended its lead to 3-1 as the Dogs scored one run in the third inning. The Dogs maintained their 3-1 lead until the bottom of the fifth, when the Knights drove in four runs to take a 5-3 lead.
The Dogs scored one run in the top of the sixth inning, then were held scoreless in the seventh to fall.
Hogsed, Morgan, Williams and Peyton Bain scored one run each for the Dogs. Godsey, Hogsed and Williams had one stolen base in the loss.
On the mound, Hogsed and Pain pitched for the Bulldogs. Bain had six strikeouts, while Hogsed had three.
