In the final meets before the Smoky Mountain Conference championship, local teams headed to Hayesville or Cherokee to compete.
Andrews and Murphy competed in Cherokee, which is the site of the SMC championship. Hiwassee Dam, Tri-County Early College and Carolina Mountain XC competed in Hayesville.
Both meets took place on April 22 as teams wrapped up the regular season.
Murphy
The Dogs competed in Cherokee, with Aaron Harger breaking the school record in discus. Harger’s throw of 142-7.00 sets the new Murphy record.
The previous record was 142-4.00 set by Chase Teesateskie in 2018.
Murphy’s boys came in first place in points with 145 and the girls came in third with 121 points.
Along with Harger getting the win in discus, other Bulldogs also won their respective events. Camden Breazeale came in first in the 110-meter hurdles, Grayson Hall came in first in high jump and Cale Harger came in first in long jump. The boys 4x200m and 4x400m relays also came in first place.
Valorie Jordan got first place in the 300m hurdles and was the only Lady Dog to win her event.
Multiple Bulldogs finished in the top five in their events.
David Rochester came in second place in both the 100m and 200m dashes. Ryan Payne also came in third in the 200m dash.
Zion Lewis came in fourth in the 800m dash. The boys 4x100m relay came in second and the 4x800m relay came in third.
In field events, Cale Harger also came in third in triple jump. In discus, Trenton Cook came in second and Zander Floyd came in fourth. In shot put, Breazeale came in fourth and Cook came in fifth.
Remy Staples came in fourth in the long jump.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Rylee Tabor came in second in the 100m dash and Bella Kent came in fifth. Tabor also came in second in the 200m dash. Rylei Howard came in fifth in the 400m dash.
In the 1600m run, Anna Leatherwood came in fourth and Hadley Rider came in fifth.
CJ Yarbro came in second and Jordan came in fourth in the 100m hurdles.
In the field events, Kent came in third in high jump with Kinlee Herr coming in fourth.
Yarbro also came in second in triple jump and fifth in long jump. Jordan also came in fourth in triple jump.
Ansley Roper came in third in discus and Amelia Joyner came in fifth. Joyner also came in fourth in shot put.
Andrews
The Wildcats competed in Cherokee with both the boys and girls teams coming in fourth place in points. The boys had 127 points, while the girls had 93 points.
Two Wildcats came in first place in their events. Myca Mustin came in first place in triple jump and Kaiya Ellis came in first place in the 100m hurdles.
The Cats had numerous athletes finish in the top five in their events.
Isaac Patrick came in third in the 100m dash and fourth in the 200m dash. Will Phillips came in fifth in the 200m dash.
Mustin also came in second in the 400m dash. Jayce Donaldson came in second in both the 800m and 1,600m run. Elliott Salinas came in third in the 1,600m run.
In the 110m hurdles, Korbin Hicks came in fourth. In 300m hurdles, Chase Beasley came in third and Hicks came in fourth.
In the boys field events, AJ Johnson came in third in long jump with Brady McLelland coming in fifth. Logan Patrick came in fifth in discus and second in shot put.
For the Lady Wildcats, Addison Waldroup came in third in the 100m dash with Marley Blackwell coming in fourth. Juliet Holloway came in third in the 200m dash with Waldroup coming in fourth.
Yesenia Hernandez came in fourth in the 400m dash. Sadie Mustin came in fifth in the 300m hurdles.
In the field events, Blackwell asl came in third in long jump. Ellis also came in third in triple jump with Sadie Mustin coming in fifth. Alexis Beasley came in third place in shot put.
Hiwassee Dam
The Eagles had five athletes compete at the Hayesville meet, led by Oscar Page. He came in first place in the 1600m run and second in the 800m run.
Also for the boys, Johnathan Bennett came in 13th in discus and Brandon Bishop came in 14th. In shot put, Bennett came in 14th and Bishop came in 15th.
For the Lady Eagles, Kaitlyn Lecoq came in sixth in the 100m dash. Hailee Barney came in eighth in the 100m dash and 11th in the 800m run.
Tri-County
Fern Crayton had a strong showing in the distance events at the Hayesville meet. She came in first place in the 3,200m run and second in the 1,600m run.
Also in the 3,200m run, Bryanna Jaime came in third place.
Sophia Smith came in fourth in the 400m dash and sixth in the 800m dash. Kadeesha Sudderth came in sixth in the 400m dash.
The girls 4x800m relay team came in second place.
For the boys, their highest finishes came in the relay events. The 4x200m team came in second, while both the 4x400m and 4x800m teams came in third place.
In the 400m dash, Jovani Baker came in fourth and Leo Henningfeld came in fifth. Henningfeld also came in 10th in the 200m dash.
In the 800m run, Julian Arvizu came in eighth and Mason Smith came in ninth. Arvizu also finished in 10th in the shot put.
Carolina Mountain XC
Three female runners competed for Carolina Mountain XC, a homeschool team based in Murphy, at the meet in Hayesville.
Rachel Carver had the teams highest finish as she came in third in the 1,600m run. She also came in fifth in the 800m run.
Also in the 1,600m run, Rebecca Carver came in fourth. She also came in seventh in the 200m dash.
Macy Skirvin came in fourth place in the 200m run.

Team in the Smoky Mountain Conference will head to Cherokee at 1 p.m. today for the SMC championship meet.
Those who qualify will then compete in the 1A and 2A Regional championship at Montreat College in Black Mountain at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8.
