Franklin – The Cherokee County Aquatic Club and more than 200 swimmers from western North Carolina competed in the conference meet Saturday.
The team had multiple podium finishes, with almost every swimmer scoring points for the team by finishing in the top six.
In boys 8 and under, PJ Hernandez came in seventh, ninth and 11th place in his events with three personal best times.
Elijah Whitney came in first place in two events in the 9-10 boys age group. He came in first in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke. He also came in second place in the 100-yard freestyle.
Maxx Colandrea came in third in three event in the 11-12 boys age group. He came in third in the 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle. He also had a fifth place finish in the 50-yard backstroke.
The team had three swimmers in the boys 13-14 age group. Connor Whitney set a new team record in the 100-yard backstroke with his second-place finish in the event. He also had first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle.
Also in the boys 13-14 age group, Mateo Colandrea came in sixth in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.
Nico Kissel rounds out the boys swimmers in the 13-14 age group. Kissel came in sixth in the 100-yard butterfly. He also set personal best times in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
For the girls swimmers on the team, Ophila Whitney came in first in the 6 and under group in the 25-yard freestyle, as well as second in the 8 and under 50-yard freestyle and fifth in the 25-yard breaststroke.
Two swimmers competed in the girl 9-10 age group. Lorelei Whitney came in first place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. She also came in second place in the 50-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard individual medley. Oceana Vaughn came in ninth place in the 50-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Natalie Lowrance in the girls 11-12 age group came in second in the 50-yard backstroke, third in both the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard butterfly, as well as fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Estelle Vaughn came in second in the 200-yard individual medley and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in the girls 13-14 age group.
Four swimmers competed in the girls 15-18 age group to round of the Cherokee County competitors at Saturday’s meet.
Sophia Evans came in third place in the 200-yard individual medley, as well as fourth in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. She also came in sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle.
Ada Lovelace came in sixth place in both the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke. She also came in ninth in the 100-yard freestyle. She set new personal best times in all three events she competed in.
Bryanna Ramirez-Jaime came in fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh the 100-yard backstroke. She set new personal best times in the backstroke, as well as the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.
Jenni Ramirez-Jaime came in with place in the 100-yard backstroke. She also swam new personal best times in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events.
Swimmers from the team will head to Jackson County on Saturday for the All-Stars meet.
