The Murphy boys varsity basketball team have kicked off 2025 with three straight wins, which extends their winning streak to five games dating back to Dec. 28.
The Bulldogs kicked their week off at home on Jan. 6, when they faced Highlands. In their second highest scoring game of the season, Murphy defeated Highlands 82-33.
The next day, they traveled to Benton, Tenn., to take on Polk County, Tenn., winning 62-58. This was their second win over Polk this season, with both games separated by only a few points.
The Dogs closed out their week by hosting Nantahala on Jan. 9. The Dogs had their highest scoring game so far this season as they won 90-52.
Murphy got out to an early lead with 31 points in the first quarter. The Dogs kept their momentum going to lead 59-28 at halftime.
Coming out of the half, they had another big quarter with 26 points in the third to take a 85-40 lead to the fourth period.
In the fourth, Nantahala made a late push, but Murphy had already built too big of a lead for them to overcome. In the fourth quarter, the Dogs sat most of their starters.
Four Bulldogs were in double digits, Abram Twiggs leading the way with 18 points. Brady Grant scored 114 points, Cale Harger had 13 and Brady Golden had 10. The Dogs also went 6/8 on free throws.
For Nantahala, Cole McCoy led the way with 31 points, including going 8/11 on free throws. Fernando Trejo had nine points, all on 3-pointers.

The Dogs will head to Cashiers to take on Blue Ridge Early College on Friday. On Saturday, they will return home to take on Gilmer County, Ga.
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Murphy will travel to Cherokee for its next Smoky Mountain Conference game.
