Murphy – Despite ice early in the week and the threat of snow later in the week, the Bulldogs picked up two Smoky Mountain Conference wins against Rosman on Jan. 28.
The Dogs combined for 136 points, while only allowing Rosman to score a combined 29 points, as the boys and girls teams claimed big wins. Both games ended with a running clock being used due to the large leads.
Boys win 68-9
The Dogs cruised to a 68-9 victory over Rosman in their lone game of the week. They opened with 12 straight points before Rosman got on the board over halfway through the opening quarter.
The Dogs took a big lead with 16 points in the first quarter. They added 15 more in the second quarter to lead 31-6 at halftime.
As Murphy extended its lead, the running clock was triggered late in the third quarter. With 20 points in the third period, the Dogs extended their lead while holding Rosman to its second straight two-point quarter.
Leading 51-8 heading into the fourth quarter, the Dogs added 17 more points in the running-clock fourth quarter. Murphy held Rosman to only one point in the final frame.
Three players were in double-digit points, led by Grayson Hall with 13 points. Cale Harger had 11 points, while Camden Breazeale scored 10.
Girls win 69-20
It was also a big win for the Lady Dogs as they won by 49 points over Rosman. The Lady Dogs scored eight points right away before Rosman got on the board.
Murphy continued to score and led 17-4 heading into the second quarter.
That’s when the Lady Dogs tacked on 22 points to lead 39-12 at halftime.
With 1:31 left in the third quarter, the Lady Dogs triggered the running clock for the remainder of the game as they led by more than 35 points. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Dogs had a 40-point lead.
Murphy sat its starters for the remaining eight minutes of the game. The Lady Dogs added 13 points off the bench.
Three Lady Dogs were in double digits led by Emma Laney with 16 points. Ellie McClure had 14 points, while CJ Yarbro scored 11.
Five Lady Dogs tallied points off the bench to combine for 27 points.
Yarbro’s 11 points led non-starters, followed by Ella Howard’s eight points.

The Dogs will return to the court Thursday, when they travel to face Rosman again. The girls will play at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
