The third conference meets of the season were held at Murphy and Robbinsville, as teams get closer to the Smoky Mountain Conference championship at the end of the month.
Murphy, Hiwassee Dam
Murphy, Hiwassee Dam, Hayesville and Swain County competed at Murphy High School on April 2.
Murphy
Three Bulldog track and field athletes came in first place in their events. Camden Breazeale came in first place in both the 110-meter and 300m hurdles. Breazeale won the 110m hurdles event by just over three seconds.
Cale Harger came in first in the long jump, while Amelia Joyner came in first in shot put.
Notching top-five finishes for the boys were Chandler Nernes in third place and Blake Davis in fourth in the 100m dash, Way Herron in fourth and Anthony Catuto in fifth in the 200m dash, and Brody McFaddin in fifth in the 400m dash.
Also having top-five finishes were Heath Chastain and Karsan Chastain coming in second and third, respectively, in the 3,200m run. In the 110m hurdles, Ryan Morrow came in third and Gabriel Reaner came in fourth.
In the relay events, Murphy came in second in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x800m. They came in third in the 4x400m.
In the field events, Catuto can in third in the triple jump. In shot put, Aaron Harger came in second, while Brody Orton came in fourth.
On the girls side, Rylee Tabor came in second place and Marley Blackwell came in fifth in the 100m dash. Tabor also came in second, and Blackwell also came in fifth, in the 200m dash.
Corrine Cotton came in second in the 400m dash. Anna Leatherwood came in fourth in the 1,600m run. Sade Cornwell came in second in the 100m hurdles.
In the relays, Murphy girls came in second in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m.
In the field events, Blackwell came in third in triple jump. Ansley Roper came in second and Joyner came in fourth in discus.
Hiwassee Dam
Two Eagles athletes came in first place in their events. Maverick Hawley dominated the 3,200m, coming in first by nearly two minutes.
Hiwassee Dam boys with top-five finishes include Oscar Page coming in second and Hawley coming in fourth in the 1,600m run. Dockery also got fifth in the long jump.
For the Lady Eagles, Sarah Stock was their only athlete to finish in the top five in their event. Stock came in fourth in shot put and fifth in discus.
The day before, Hiwassee Dam distance runners Page and Ethan Russell traveled to Weaverville to compete in the Joe Bell Invitational meet at North Buncombe High School.
Russell came in second place in the 800m and 1,600m runs, as well as fifth place in the 3,200m. Page came in fourth place in the 800m and 1,600m runs, and he also came in sixth in the 3,200m.
Andrews, Tri-County
Also on April 2, Andrews, Tri-County Early College, Robbinsville, Cherokee and Rosman competed at Robbinsville High School.
Andrews
The Wildcats swept the meet winning in points totals for both the boys and girls. The girls had 179 points, beating second-place Cherokee by 94 points. The boys had 162 points.
Winning events for the boys were Logan Shuler in high jump, Kegan Ellis in the long jump and William Wood in discus.
Winning events for the girls were Stephanie Hernandez in the 800m run and Kaiya Ellis in the 100m hurdles.
Boys finishing in the top three in their event were Isaac Patrick came in second in the 100m dash, Myca Mustin came in third in the 400m dash, and Chase Beasley came in second and Braydon Garrett came in third in the 100m hurdles.
Garrett also came in third in the 300m hurdles. Caleb Helton came in second in high jump. Myca Mustin came in second in the triple jump. Brady McLelland came in second in shot put.
In the boys relay events, the “A” team came in second and the “B” team came in fourth in the 4x100m. In the 4x200m, the “A” team came in second. In the 4x400m, the “A” team came in third.
Girls finishing in the top three in their event were Juliet Holloway in third in the 200m dash, Kimber Vaught in second in the 400m dash, and Mattie Mustin in second and Lauren Cochran in third in the 100m hurdles.
Jaden Crocker came in third in the 300m hurdles. Kaiya Ellis came in second, while Vaught came in third, in the high jump. Kaiya Ellis also came in third in the triple jump. Demi Davis came in second, and Alexis Beasley came in third in shot put. Crocker also came in second in the discus.
In the girls relay events, the “A” team came in second and the “B” team came in third in the 4x100m. In the 4x200m, the “A” team came in first and the “B” team came in second. In the 4x400m, the “A” team came in second. In the 4x800m, the “A” team came in second.
Tri-County
The girls team came in fifth with 56 points, while the boys team came in fourth with 86 points.
Athletes who came in first in their event from Tri-County Early College were Fern Crayton in both the 1,600m and 3,200m runs.
Finishing in the top three were Tina Trigueros in second and Catherine Gonzalez in third in the 800m run, Jacob Gonzalez in third in the 800m run, and Jacob Gonzalez in second and Landan Spies in third in the 1,600m run.
Also finishing in the top three were Spies in second and Elias Diaz-Menchu in third in the 3,200m run.
The girls 4x400m relay came in third. They also came in third in the 4x800m girls relay. The boys 4x800m relay team came in third.
